Plymouth Council Member Jim Davis Resigns, Cites Health Reasons
Plymouth City Council member Jim Davis has submitted a letter of resignation, effective immediately, citing “recent health challenges.”
Davis has represented Ward 3, the city’s southeast quadrant, since 2017. His term was set to expire at the end of the year.
The Plymouth City Council is expected to approve a resolution declaring a council seat vacancy at its Tuesday meeting.
According to the city’s charter, the council must appoint an eligible resident to fill the vacancy until the next regular municipal election in November. The council could opt to appoint someone without an interview process or accept applications and interview candidates for the vacancy.
The Plymouth City Council would have 60 days to make an appointment from the time of resolution approval, which would be April 20. If that doesn’t happen, the mayor would have to appoint someone on or before the April 23 meeting.
Davis: ‘I am proud of Plymouth’
In his letter of resignation, Davis wrote that he is “proud of Plymouth.”
“Our city is run by people who are hardworking, smart, and dedicated,” he wrote. “We have a city that is changing with the times, while preserving its history and traditions.”
Prior to serving on the council, Davis served on the Plymouth Planning Commission for 10 years and served on the city’s Human Rights Coalition.
“I leave the City Council feeling that I did my best for all the residents of Plymouth,” wrote Davis. “Thank you for the time I served, it truly was a gift!”
