Plans Unveiled for New Hope Pool
After a year-long effort involving a citizen committee and city leaders, plans to build a new park and swimming pool in New Hope are one step closer to being finalized.
Tuesday night, the New Hope Planning Commission reviewed plans for the new Civic Center Park.
One of the key components of the park is an outdoor swimming pool.
The design calls for a 50-meter pool with eight swimming lanes, a shallow water recreation pool, and two water slides.
The original cost of the swimming pool was estimated at $11 million. The price tag is now about $12.2 million, but that won’t necessarily represent the final total.
“There’s close to half a million just in alternates on the pool improvements, just to give the council options and staff options,” said Chris Long, New Hope’s City Engineer. “When the bids come, we’ll be able to review all of these, the entire park, all at once. And the plan is really to take that towards the March 11 council meeting with all the packages and really have an understanding of what we have and all the alternates we can accept.”
City officials have applied for about $500,000 in grants to help pay for the swimming pool.
The New Hope City Council will vote on the plans at its Dec. 10 meeting.
In February, the city will review bids for the project.
