Perpich Student To Have Painting Displayed at U.S. Capitol
A significant achievement is barely setting in for Perpich Arts High School student Milo Clifton.
Clifton, a junior at Perpich Arts High School, painted a piece titled “Summer in the Apostle Islands.” His work received first place in the 5th Congressional District art competition.
“It is amazing. I was in shock when I found it,” Clifton told CCX News. “I don’t know if it’s fully set in, but yeah, it’s really amazing.”
Clifton painted a piece titled “Summer in the Apostle Islands.” His piece was one of 24 works submitted by students to the office of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, according to a press release from Perpich.
“There’s so many great entries into that competition,” said Clifton. “It’s crazy that they picked me.”
For the honor, Clifton’s work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. In addition, Clifton will receive two tickets to fly to Washington, D.C., to attend the National Arts Competition Ceremony and a tour of the Capitol.
Clifton’s painting using a color scheme of magenta, cyan and yellow was intentional.
“I wanted to use the color scheme to emphasize the happy summer feeling of being on a lake,” said Clifton, who resides in South St. Paul.
The 5th Congressional District Art Competition is open to all high schoolers who live or attend school in Minnesota’s Fifth District.
