Oxbow Creek’s “Scooter World” Has Harry Potter Theme
Physical education class at Oxbow Creek Elementary in Brooklyn Park took on a magical, Harry Potter twist in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.
Volunteers and staff transformed the gymnasium into ‘Hogwarts School of Scooters.’
It’s part of Oxbow Creek‘s annual “Scooter World” program, where students use scooters to navigate an elaborate obstacle course decorated in a Harry Potter theme.
Along the way, they stop at 12 stations to do different exercises.
Teachers say it’s a great way for kids to develop a love of physical fitness.
“At this early of an age, we’re just trying to get kids excited about movement,” says Nikki Collison, a physical education teacher at Oxbow Creek Elementary. “And hopefully that will translate to later in life that they want to keep healthy and they want to keep exercising. And if we can make it fun for them, then they’ll just hopefully take that on to later skills in life.”
It took about 30 hours for volunteers to set up this year’s edition of Scooter World.
Students also get involved by creating artwork around the year’s theme.
