Osseo School Board Deadlocked Over Choosing Board Chair
The Osseo School Board has voted six times in the past two meetings to elect the school board chair. The vote has been a tie between Jackie Mosqueda-Jones and Tanya Simons.
Jackie Mosqueda-Jones, Thomas Brooks, and Tamara Grady cast votes for Mosqueda-Jones.
“Our highest priority as a governing body will be to find and hire the next superintendent,” said Thomas Brooks in the Jan. 10 board meeting. “Jackie has gone through two superintendent searches both in ISD 279 and 287.”
Mosqueda-Jones is acting board chair and was elected vice chair at the Jan. 17 meeting. She will continue to run meetings in that capacity until a chair is elected.
Tanya Simons, Heather Douglass, and Sarah Mitchell cast votes for Simons.
“I know there’s a lot of concern within the community and with staff that our board is divided,” said Heather Douglass at the Jan. 10 meeting. “I know that Tanya has been a voice of reason.”
Douglass was elected treasurer and Tamara Grady was elected clerk.
Elections will continue at subsequent meetings until a chair is elected.
