Osseo Marching Band Plans Nov. 10 Fundraising Night of Fun
Osseo Senior High School students want to fill up their auditorium on Friday night. They plan to do it by putting on a show.
Donations raised from the free Nov. 10 show will help pay for school marching band equipment.
A fundraiser is needed because Osseo has developed a good problem — student interest keeps growing in the marching band — from 18 students eight years ago to more than 60 today.
“We just try to build the culture, of like ‘hey, let’s be part of this school, let’s be part of the marching band’ and give opportunities to every kid in this building,” said band director Mary Hanson.
With growing interest comes the cost of buying more equipment.
“Marching bands are not a cheap endeavor,” said Hanson.
The equipment needed includes more color guard poles and front ensemble percussion instruments.
Friday’s marching band concert starts at 7 p.m. at Osseo Senior High. Attendees are encouraged to provide a suggested donation of $10.
The show includes a guest performance from the Dirty Shorts Brass Band, a New Orleans-style brass band based out of Maple Grove.
Hanson said the show is meant to be lively and full of energy.
“You’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a marching band and it’s kind of fun.”
