OktoBeerMeatFeast Celebrates Bratwurst, BBQ and a Boot of German Beer
Nothing says October celebration like bratwurst, barbecue and a boot of German beer. In Golden Valley, there’s an opportunity to enjoy all that and more.
Under Pressure Brewing will host its annual OktoBeerMeatFeast on Friday and Saturday.
The popular event includes a meterwurst-eating competition on Saturday. This year, 22 people will compete to see who can eat a full meter of brat the fastest.
It’s one of the highlights from the festive atmosphere.
“It’s just a really fun event,” said Lori Ertl, co-owner of Under Pressure Brewing. “Some come dressed up. Some — their kids, the whole family comes dressed up.”
The two-day event also includes spaetzle noodle racing, a stein holding contest and beer poking, an ancient tradition where a metal poker is heated then placed in a glass of beer.
“We have about six different ones we do- all of our German ones, plus the black IPA is wonderful. When you poke it the head almost turns into a marshmallow flavor. So come on in and try that, it’s a hoot,” said Ertl.
Live music featuring Hula Creek is planned for both days.
That’s not to mention an extensive list of fall beers, including a kettle corn ale, a rhubarb porter, a smoked cherry rauchbier ale and Under Pressure’s popular pumpkin ale.
“We go crazy with our fall lists because it’s kind of a short time period,” said Ertl.
That’s in addition to 27 beers already on tap and the brewery’s extensive list of blends.
Under Pressure Brewing is also selling T-shirts to support cancer research during the event.
