Office Depot Donates Hundreds of Backpacks, Supplies to Brooklyn Center Elementary
Office Depot donated 1,000 backpacks filled with supplies to Brooklyn Center Elementary School.
“It’s a great springboard for our students and families to come into the building and not have to worry about purchasing supplies because those things can be spendy,” said principal Jeff Wilson.
The annual Start Proud program provides Title I schools like Brooklyn Center with $125 worth of supplies per student.
One teacher at the school also got a big surprise. Teacher Clarissa Leino received a laptop and new office chair. The principal described Leino as “selfless.”
“She is one that has stood front and center for us. She has gone to houses. She has brought our families food. She has brought students the homework they needed, whatever it took for students to get taken care of,” said Wilson.
Local Office Depot and OfficeMax stores in the Minneapolis-area are also raising donations with a three-month campaign to support the teaching staff at Brooklyn Center Elementary STEAM. Customers can contribute at their local store through Saturday, Sept. 25.
