Northwest Suburbs Expected To Add 60,000 People by 2050
The Twin Cities northwest suburbs are expected to get a lot bigger, according to new population estimates from the Metropolitan Council.
Maple Grove is expected to grow the most in the northwest suburbs, adding nearly 20,000 people from 2020 to 2050.
The nine cities in the CCX News viewing area are expected to add more than 60,000 people, larger than the current population of the city of Minnetonka.
The Met Council forecasts rely on two models. One of them assesses economic activity to project population changes. Another model combs through real estate data and factors in land-use plans of cities.
Population estimates for the nine northwest suburbs in the CCX News viewing area to 2050 are as follows:
- Maple Grove +19,947
- Brooklyn Park +17,022
- Plymouth +10,674
- Golden Valley +3,948
- Brooklyn Center +3,118
- Robbinsdale +2,254
- Crystal +2,170
- New Hope +1,114
- Osseo +522
