North Hennepin Community College Recognized with Diversity Award
North Hennepin Community College received the 2021 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT into Diversity magazine.
The award recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
“I’m extremely proud of the diversity and equity work we’ve done at North Hennepin Community College, and this HEED award serves as a symbol of the great effort that’s been given by our community members to help our initiatives thrive and flourish. The year 2020 was an incredibly difficult one in the DEI space, and certainly as an institution located in ground zero of our nation’s racial reckoning. So, this HEED award is an incredible boost to our college spirit, and it’s a fantastic benchmark to inspire and motivate us to continue doing the great work we’re doing,” said Dr. Rolando García, president of North Hennepin Community College, in a press release.
North Hennepin Community College held a variety of programs in the last year that addressed race, community action and change.
Dr. Rassheedah Watts is the chief diversity officer for North Hennepin Community College and worked on the events. She also worked with CCX Create to produce Diversity Minute, which is a series of short clips meant to better inform people about issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
