Nilfisk To Close Brooklyn Park Plant, Cut 105 Jobs
This story has been updated to include a press statement from Nilfisk
Employees of a Brooklyn Park manufacturing plant are preparing for difficult layoffs.
Nilfisk, a Danish-based maker of industrial floor cleaners, will close its plant at 9435 Winnetka Avenue, according to a WARN Act notice filed with the state.
The closure will result in 105 job cuts, the notice said.
The layoffs will occur in phases, starting on Dec. 5 and run through June 2026. Affected workers include a range of positions including engineers, technicians and assemblers.
Nilfisk provides a range of cleaning machines for office buildings.
In a press statement, Nilfisk said the closure was part of “strategic actions in the United States designed to streamline operations, speed decision-making, improve time-to-market, and deliver a consistently superior customer experience.”
Nilfisk said the company will relocate its U.S. commercial office to a new flagship site in the Twin Cities in the first half of 2026. The company will transfer manufacturing of several of its industrial machines to an existing facility in Querétaro, Mexico. The transfer marks the conclusion of floor-cleaning equipment manufacturing in the United States, the release stated.
“The hardest part of this transition is saying goodbye to some of our colleagues in Brooklyn Park, whose commitment and contributions we deeply respect and appreciate,” said Eapen Chacko, executive vice president for Nilfisk’s Americas branch.
The company said its commitment to the U.S. remains strong, also noting the opening of a new state-of-the-art distribution center in Bentonville, Ark., by the end of the year. That facility will be used to ship all machines and spare parts.
The 181,436-square-foot manufacturing facility in Brooklyn Park used by Nilfisk is currently for sale, according to a listing by Cushman & Wakefield.
