Newsmakers: Senator Warren Limmer Talks Budget Challenges
Sen. Warren Limmer, R-Maple Grove, outlines key legislative priorities before the Minnesota Legislature is scheduled to convene Jan. 14.
Limmer emphasizes the need for serious budget discussions.
“We are not ready for that huge of an increase in spending,” said Limmer, noting the pressure on taxpayers and the challenges of a still-recovering economy. “We need to have a family discussion about that 40 percent tax increase or spending increase from last year and that triggers a $10 billion need for new taxes. Those are bills that I did not support but that’s going to put tremendous pressure on our taxpayers.”
Limmer also highlighted the focus on bonding projects, such as the Maple Grove Community Center remodel and Medina’s water treatment program.
“It used to be the bonding used to be in the second year and the politicians could come home an brag about the pork that they could provide for their district,” said Limmer. “We did not have a bonding bill last year so that triggers added discussion.”
Limmer is excited about getting back to work in the next legislative session, but first says he’s excited to be expecting his second grandchild and the fun that that will bring to the Limmer household.
