Newsmakers: Sen. Bonnie Westlin Highlights Affordability, Capitol Security in Upcoming Session
Sen. Bonnie Westlin, DFL-Plymouth, told CCX News in Newsmakers that she will advocate for housing affordability, Plymouth bonding projects and state Capitol security.
“I actually will be dropping a bill that would completely ban guns on the Capitol complex except for our law enforcement officers who were there on official business,” said Westlin. “I think it’s just the environment that we live in today. We want to make sure that everybody who comes to visit our Capitol, including thousands of school kids, feel comfortable there.”
Westlin said visitors can expect to see changes to security in how people access the Capitol building.
Meanwhile, Westlin said she will also advocate for a local option sales tax referendum for Plymouth that would benefit local projects like the Plymouth Ice Center.
“It’s actually a high priority for the city of Plymouth, and I know Representative Klevorn will be my partner in the House on that, so we’re going to work hard to get that passed,” said Westlin.
