Newsmakers: Sen. Rest Touts Child Tax Credit, U of M Bonding Plan
Sen. Ann Rest, DFL-New Hope, says that the child tax credit enacted in the tax bill last year has helped more than 360,000 children across the state.
“We have in Minnesota the leading tax credit for children and the purpose of which is to really bring Minnesota families, low income families, out of poverty,” said Rest. “It is a tax credit that will reduce childhood poverty in Minnesota by a third.”
Rest says she’s proud of the initial numbers that have come back showing the number of families that have received the credit.
Rest also talked about the how the University of Minnesota system has been an economic engine for the state. She said a bonding proposal would help with maintenance projects on four of the five campuses. Read more about the bill here.
“It’s emphasizing asset preservation and maintenance projects for which there’s not a whole lot of publicity, for example, replacing a boiler,” explained Rest.
Rest says there’s a list prioritizing projects, and what doesn’t get funded this year could possibly get funded next year.
