Newsmakers: Rep. Samantha Vang Focuses on Brooklyn Center Business Growth
Rep. Samantha Vang (DFL-Brooklyn Center) says Brooklyn Center is a prime location for development.
“I’m hoping to spur business development in Brooklyn Center,” said Vang. “We definitely, we see around the city a lot of vacant lots, buildings, and I know the community would like to see more things in Brooklyn Center, more things to do and more things to be together and have a community.”
Last year, Brooklyn Center was awarded $5.1 million in bonding dollars for the expansion and renovation of the city’s community center. This fall, the city will send a 0.5 percent sales tax proposal to voters. See story here.
“There are definitely some bonding projects from last year that got funding already, so for this year definitely want to focus on business development area,” said Vang. “Brooklyn Center is a prime location. There’s no reason for a business not to be here. I think the support, we can do more at the state and city level, so continue to encourage that growth there.”
As chair of the Agriculture, Finance, and Policy committee in the House, Vang also plans to work on ensuring agencies are working together to make sure communities have good, clean water.
“This has to do with more if communities have access to clean drinking water and looking at how the states are working together, and agencies are working together to make sure communities have good, clean water and water quality is still top of mind,” said Vang.
