Newsmakers: Rep. Momanyi-Hiltsley To Push for Northwest Metro Athletic Facility
Rep. Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley, DFL-Brooklyn Park, plans to push for a bill that would bring improvements to the Northwest Metro Regional Athletic Facility in Brooklyn Park. The bonding request would fund an expansion and facelift to the Community Activity Center, designed to serve all ages and interests, from ice sports to multi-purpose courts.
“I’m excited about this product because it came out of the community’s need for having a facility that accommodates the diversity of this community,” said Momanyi-Hiltsley.
In 2023, residents in Brooklyn Park were divided on the plan to convert a city ice rink to multi-use courts for basketball, volleyball and pickleball.

“We heard the debate of ice sheets versus basketball, but the message is that we want something here for everyone,” said Momanyi-Hiltsley. “The point of this facility is to make sure it accommodates those folks who love the ice rink and those folks who want a multi-purpose court that can accommodate all sorts of different activities, from young babies all the way to our elderly.”
Momanyi-Hiltsley says there’s also a need to have culturally specific spaces at the Community Activity Center for Brooklyn Park’s very diverse community. The first-term lawmaker says there’s energy in the legislature right now that she hopes will lead to a bonding bill containing this project.
The Brooklyn Park legislator is also pushing for a bill that would increase one-time emergency rental assistance, something she says has impacted rural areas as well as immigrant communities.
“I’m hoping there’s another path to provide relief to Minnesota families across the whole entire state,” said Momanyi-Hiltsley.
