Newsmakers: Rep. Cedrick Frazier Talks Police Accountability, Traffic Stops
Rep. Cedrick Frazier (DFL-New Hope) says the Derek Chauvin guilty verdicts of all three counts by a 12-member jury was the right decision.
“It was the verdict I was hoping for,” said Frazier.
Frazier also believes will the verdict will help shape the ongoing discussion of police reform.
“I truly believe if officers are held accountable when officers cross the line, there will be a pause. There will be more thoughtfulness around how they engage community members,” said Frazier. “Their job is to protect and service, not cause harm.”
The House did pass a police safety bill that included police reform measures this week.
“I really think this is an opportunity for Minnesota to step up and be a leader on accountability,” said Frazier. “The time is right.”
Frazier said one police reform measure that is included involves limiting the reasons for traffic stops.
