Newsmakers: R’dale School Board Chair Explains Need for Third-Party Mediator
The Robbinsdale School Board voted in early December to ask a third-party mediator to improve the working relationships and communication between board members. See story here.
Board chair Helen Bassett proposed a “facilitated meeting” to clear the air. While it’s too early to know exactly what mediation will look like, Bassett spoke on Newsmakers about the need for mediation to “build trust” and promote “professional relationships” between colleagues.
“We are on the cusp of hiring a new superintendent for the school district, so if there ever was a time when we need to be clear of any impediments [it is now],” said Bassett.
Not only is the district working to hire a new superintendent, they also face financial challenges.
Bassett says she’s optimistic about the mediation.
“I think we can all agree there are things we would like to see approved,” said Bassett.
