Newsmakers: North Hennepin’s Jeanette Rupert is a Distinguished Alumnus
Jeanette Rupert from Brooklyn Park was recently recognized as a distinguished alumnus from North Hennepin Community College.
Rupert is an ICU nurse from Methodist Hospital. She received her degree from North Hennepin and Metropolitan State University while raising four children.
She helped found 612 M*A*S*H (Minneapolis All Shall Heal), which grew out of a pop-up tent at the George Floyd Memorial site. She is also helping to plan this year’s “Rise and Remember” events.
“MASH is a nonprofit that started in the midst of an uprise,” said Rupert. “So out of trauma came this wonderful organization that facilitates and promotes health in BIPOC communities where there are disparities and a lack of access.”
At this year’s Rise and Remember event on May 25-28, there will be a self-care fair to promote healing and healthy living.
Rupert says the honor as the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient was a surprise.
“I didn’t really expect it,” said Rupert. “I see the work I do as part of a bigger picture, a part of the greater good. “It’s important for everyone to know that. Whatever you do, whatever field you are in, we are all here to help. Whatever giftings you have, that’s what we give to help make the world around us better.”
Rupert says she doesn’t plan to stop doing her work to make the community around her, better.
