Newsmakers: After Enrollment Spike, NHCC President Talks What’s Next for the College
North Hennepin Community College President Rolando Garcia says the college is celebrating 10 consecutive semesters of enrollment growth.
As the college looks forward to 2030, administrators have started work on a strategic plan to accommodate its increased enrollment.
“It’s important to represent that we are of the community and that we are here to serve the community,” said Garcia. “We had about 850 participants and not just on campus. We had faculty, staff, students but we also engaged our partners, local legislators, business and industry to really shape what the college should be doing going forward.”

The strategic plan identified four themes: completion, transferability, excellence in teaching and inclusivity.
“We are committed to making sure students complete a degree, certificate, or whatever it is that they are looking for and that it will transfer,” said Garcia. “If their dream destination is to attend another college, a faith-based college or HBCU, that we can create those paths for them.”
Garcia said two of the ways they will get students to those points are by being inclusive and welcoming as well as providing excellent teaching.
Garcia invites people to check out the campus or attend an on-campus event that is listed on the college’s website at nhcc.edu.
