Newsmakers: Minneapolis Northwest’s Leslie Wright Discusses Growing Tourism in Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center
Minneapolis Northwest’s CEO Leslie Wright says the tourism organization will accentuate the assets of Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center to attract people to the area.
Through the work with Minneapolis Northwest, Wright represents the area to attract meetings, conventions and other gatherings in the two Brooklyns.
“We’re trying to attract people to this vibrant and diverse community and accentuate our positives,” said Wright, who listed off assets like Topgolf, nature trails, hotels, and restaurants.”The important thing is to make sure people know who we are. They know where we are and our residents understand the importance of what we do.”
The organization is funded through the lodging tax, and counts one of their success stories as landing the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament in 2024.
“Gus Macker was the third week of August 2024 and it was the first time in the Brooklyn Park area. The great thing is, it’s coming back,” said Wright. “We garnered so much attention between the media and the residents. We had volunteers abundantly, and what a wonderful event for people to come and experience.”
