Newsmakers: Memorial Blood Centers Encourages Donors to Fill Gap Caused by Hurricanes
Memorial Blood Centers’ Phil Losacker encourages donors to consider giving blood to help prepare for increased need after the recent natural disasters.
“What happens is those areas get inundated with floodwaters and their ability to collect blood in the future gets compromised,” said Losacker. “It’s not that they need blood today, but a couple of days or weeks from now.”
Losacker says MBC is one of many blood centers that “stand ready” to help. Memorial Blood Centers’ says that blood collections across the U.S. are facing significant disruption due to ongoing weather emergencies in the southeast.
Memorial Blood Centers Make Donation Easy
There are Memorial Blood Centers locations in Plymouth and a center recently opened in Maple Grove. To be a donor, you must be 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds and be healthy.
“It will take less than an hour for an interview, mini-physical and then the donation itself,” said Losacker. “We want to make sure people have an excellent experience.
