Newsmakers: Hennepin County Commissioner Kevin Anderson Reflects on Achievements and Goals
Commissioner Kevin Anderson, representing Hennepin County’s District 7, highlights a productive year, including a 5.5% levy increase — lower than many neighboring local governments — to balance community needs with fiscal responsibility.
“It’s tough to find that balance of meeting our needs in the community and funding it,” said Anderson. “But keeping it at a reasonable level.”
For the first time, a full levy point was dedicated to healthcare and will support Hennepin County Medical Center.
Anderson hopes reauthorizing the ballpark sales tax could lead to future assistance to North Memorial.
“They certainly need help, we need to make sure we are working with our legislative partners to make sure we can get some of these important things across the finish line,” he said.
Anderson also spoke about effectively ending veterans’ homelessness.
“We accomplished something that so many people didn’t think was possible,” said Anderson. “We did it by making sure we had the resources in place.”
Anderson said he has pride in a new program called Elevate Hennepin that supports the business community.
