New Maple Grove Veterinary Clinic Responds to Demand for Pet Care
Pets are a part of the family, and sometimes, even our furry family members need emergency care.
“We had to do something. Even if it was right or wrong, we had to do something for him,” said Tim Pospisil of St. Michael, referring to his cat, Ninja.
Pospisil says Ninja had been acting out of character the last couple days.
“He wasn’t doing his usual routine during the days, coming to bother me in the morning,” Pospisil said. “I’m like ‘where’s Ninja?’ That kind of thing. Oh well let me check. He’s not eating. Oh okay. He’s meowing at me weird.”
The symptoms were alarming enough that he brought Ninja to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG). It’s Maple Grove’s newest emergency veterinary clinic.
Turns out, Ninja had a urinary obstruction.
“So, Dr. Chandra is working on relieving that urinary obstruction and making sure that urine can flow through the urethra,” said Dr. Julie Riha, medical director at VEG Maple Grove.
Dr. Riha said VEG opened in July, and so far, the staff has treated more than 200 pets.
“On the west side of the Twin Cities here, there isn’t a lot of 24/7 facilities,” said Dr. Riha. “We have seen a huge need in the community, especially in Maple Grove.”
Focus on emergency care
VEG focuses strictly on emergency care. They have all the specialized equipment on site to handle whatever comes through the door.
And if you need to sleep there while your pet undergoes a procedure, they’ve got you covered there too.
“We have pull-out couches in all of our exam rooms and you’re able to stay with your pet if they need to be hospitalized,” said Dr. Riha. “That’s one of the kind of special things that we have about our company, that we keep you and your pet together.”
The wide open floor plan lets people be with their pets every step of the way.
Pospisil stood right by Ninja’s side during his pet’s surgery. It was a procedure in which the vets were able to successfully get the urine out.
Good news on a day that started with a lot of uncertainty.
“It is a relief that they know what they’re doing. It’s in their hands,” said Pospisil.
VEG is open every hour of every day, including holidays. If you need to bring your pet in, the initial cost is $205.
