New Hot Pot and Sushi Restaurant Opens in Brooklyn Park
Upin Hot Pot, a new hot pot and sushi restaurant, is now open in Brooklyn Park. Located at 8000 Brooklyn Boulevard, Upin Hot Pot takes over space that was once a Bakers Square restaurant.
“We saw there was a good opportunity here to market, good population and good people always looking for hot pot and sushi. That’s why we come in here,” said Shan Lin, owner of Upin Hot Pot.
Lin said he hopes the restaurant will bring the community together and introduce a new style of eating rooted in Chinese traditions.
“Oh! Hot pot, we’ve never tried it, so we want to try it,” said Lin about customers new to hot pot.
With hot pot, customers choose their preferred soup base, pick out a favorite sauce and order whatever they want to cook right in front of them.
Upin Hot Pot uses robots to bring food out to customers. The restaurant plans on having new menu items every couple of weeks.
Lin has more than 30 years of experience and also owns sushi and Chinese places in Champlin and Bloomington. This is his first establishment to specialize in hot pot.
“Everybody enjoying their food, enjoying new food, it’s so exciting and I’m so excited too,” Lin said.
Lin said hot pot is a tradition that brings family and friends together to eat without their food getting cold.
“When the steam is coming out from the hot pot, you feel the harmony, and you know you’re together with your friends and family, and you feel so warm,” said Lin. “That’s what traditional hot pot culture is.”
