New Hope Results: Elder Elected Mayor; Hoffe, Isenberg Win Council Seats
Correction: This version was revised to explain how the city will fill the remainder of Elder’s council term. An appointment process will be used to fill his seat, not a special election.
Voters in the city of New Hope elected familiar faces to city council, electing longtime Council Member John Elder as mayor and re-electing current council members Andy Hoffe and Michael Isenberg.
Elder, who has served on the New Hope City Council since 2008, defeated challenger Jonathan London, also a city council member, with 59 percent of the vote and 5,189 total votes to London’s 40 percent and 3,567 votes.
Currently a Robbinsdale police captain, Elder has worked in law enforcement for 30 years. He will replace longtime New Hope Mayor Kathi Hemken, who has served since being elected in 2008.
London will return to serving on the New Hope City Council, as his term expires in two years.
The city council will also have to appoint a new member to fill Elder’s council seat, as there is two years left on his term.
