New Hope Police Seek Suspect in Weapon Assault
New Hope police are seeking a man who police say assaulted another man with a weapon at Civic Center Park.
Police say the incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the picnic pavilion at Civic Center Park. Officers initially responded to a report of two men involved in a physical altercation.
According to New Hope police, the suspect ran from the park immediately after the incident. A search of the area was unsuccessful, police said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital to receive additional medical treatment. His condition was not known Thursday afternoon.

Investigators don’t consider the crime a random incident.
“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect and victim potentially knew one another,” read a statement put out by New Hope police.
The incident is currently being investigated by officers from the New Hope Police Department with the assistance of the Hennepin County Sherriff’s Office.
