New Hope Passes Affordable Housing Protection Ordinance
New Hope is the latest city to pass an ordinance protecting low-income tenants from immediate rent increases if there’s a change in building ownership. Under the new ordinance, the new owner would have 30 days to notify residents of the sale. They would also have to notify tenants of possible rent increases and relocation options.
New Hope has 70 multi-family housing apartments, 14 offer low-income housing.
Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, and Golden Valley have similar ordinances.
