New Hope Lake on Impaired Waters List Could Be Drained
Meadow Lake is a shallow 103-acre lake that has been on the state’s impaired waters list since 2002 because the phosphorus count is just too high.
Lowering the lake during the winter months could kill curly leaf pond weed that leads to the growth of blue green algae.
The city of New Hope is considering a plan to draw-down the lake next winter. The project requires the consent of three-fourths of lake shore property owners on Meadow Lake.
A draw-down did happen on Meadow Lake back in 2006.
