New Exhibitions on Display at Hopkins Center for Arts
A diverse range of artworks are on display at the Hopkins Center for the Arts through June 15. There’s a little something for everyone.
One set of works on display looks like fabric, but it’s actually a painting. Local artist Kathy Snow Stratton is one of the artists showcased in the “Unexpected Ends” display, alonside sculptor Dennis Kalow.
“They’re intricately interwoven paint strokes that give it a really convincing sense of depth,” said Jim Clark, visual arts manager for the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
Another exhibit explores the wonders of the upper Midwest. For that, two photographers paired up and chose the same location, but produced vastly different results. Catherine Lange’s photos are meant to be dreamlike, while Michael J. Ruth’s are created with time-lapse and long exposure.
The other artist on display this month is Nick Gabois’ “Midwest Americana.” He uses bold colors to paint different midwestern images.
Those include subjects like the Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth, and Paul Bunyan in Bemidji.
That’s just a taste of some of the artworks on display at Hopkins Center for the Arts. More details about the exhibits and the artwork is on the art center’s website.
