New Electric Vehicle Chargers May Come to Golden Valley Menards
With the popularity of electric vehicles on the rise, new chargers may be coming to the Golden Valley Menards.
Electrify America, a company that aims to create a network of EV chargers across the United States, is proposing to construct six charging stations in the Menards parking lot.
The Golden Valley Planning Commission recommended the proposal for approval this week.
Located at 6800 Wayzata Blvd., the chargers would be the fastest available on the market. These high-voltage, DC powered chargers can add 100 to 250 miles of range to a battery in a half-hour.
Customers that use the chargers pay for the electricity they consume based on a flat kilowatt-hour fee.
“I really like that they’re level three chargers stations,” said Golden Valley Planning Commissioner
Ellen Brenna. “I’ve seen Target and Walmart, I think there are other corporations that are putting these in across the country but most of them are level two, and the fact that this is a level three, not only does it help increase our charging station diversity in Golden Valley, but it also is super enticing to people.”
The planning commission had concerns about landscaping around Menards, as well as drainage in the parking lot.
Golden Valley has the second highest number of EV chargers per capita in the Twin Cities, according to Jason Zimmerman, Golden Valley planning manager.
