New Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center Opens in Maple Grove
Demand for more child specialty care services in the northwest metro has led to a new medical center in Maple Grove.
Children’s Minnesota opened a specialty center adjacent to its primary care clinic on Bass Lake Road. Officials say this particular 1,500-square-foot location will expand cardiovascular services for children as well as provide care for ear, nose and throat.
“It helps us bring our specialty care to families in communities where they live, which is incredibly important when you have a sick child,” said Monica Schiller, vice president of ambulatory services with Children’s Minnesota. “There’s a lot going on in terms of a lot of appointments and a lot of things you need to do. Having that care closer to home makes that easier for families going through that experience.”
Children’s had used this space for administrative services. But Schiller said when COVID hit and workers shifted to remote duties, Children’s saw it as an opportunity to provide additional services.
“A lot of people want to be seen in this market,” said Schiller. “This is really bringing those additional services and access to that care where we know that the demand already exists.”
Before the Maple Grove expansion, patients were waiting upwards of 30 days for pediatric cardiovascular care, Schiller said.
Later this year, the Maple Grove specialty center is also expected to add care for cancer and blood disorders.
