Nadia’s Jamaican Kitchen Serves Up Help for Hurricane Victims
A devastating hurricane that swept through the Caribbean last month has a Brooklyn Park restaurant trying to help. Hurricane Melissa caused widespread destruction and left dozens of people dead. The island of Jamaica bore the brunt of the storm.
“It is important for me because it touches my heart. You know, being a natural born Jamaican, yes, I will be there,” said Nadia Wotrang, owner of Nadia’s Jamaican Kitchen. “Not physically there, but do everything I possibly can to help anyone that is in need.”
Nadia’s Jamaican Kitchen in Brooklyn Park has launched a supply drive to help the people impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.

Nadia Wotrang (left) and Kareen Anughom (right) organized the Jamaica hurricane relief drive.
Through Nov. 21, you can come to the restaurant on Noble Parkway and donate things like food, clothes, blankets, hygiene products, tools and school supplies.
“Many people know of Jamaica through Reggae music, and Bob Marley has put it on the international platform,” said Kareen Anughom, who helped organize the supply drive. “And our Jamaican food, and our culture, and our beautiful beaches, and so we want to empower people. This is your time. If you love Jamaica, then support that and come out and help with this donation drive.”
All of the donated items will go to the Kiwanis Club of Cyberconnect Jamaica. If you’d like to make a financial contribution, people can donate to Jamaica’s Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management.
Meanwhile, Nadia’s Jamaican Kitchen is hosting a hurricane relief event on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
