MN House Winners for New Hope, Golden Valley: Frazier and Freiberg
Voters in New Hope and Golden Valley elected incumbents to the Minnesota House in their respective cities.
Rep. Cedrick Frazier, DFL-New Hope, was re-elected in House District 43A, while Mike Freiberg, DFL-Golden Valley, retained his House District 43B seat.
Frazier Wins in House District 43A
(House District 43A contains New Hope and most of Crystal)
Cedrick Frazier defeated Republican challenger Todd Hesemann for the House District 43A seat.
The New Hope Democrat received 66.3 percent of the vote and 13,819 total votes, while Heseman, also of New Hope, finished with 33.6 percent and 6,998 votes.
Frazer was first elected in 2020. He ran unopposed in 2022.
During his time in the House, Frazier has authored bills to reform public safety and the criminal justice system following the murder of George Floyd.
Freiberg Retains House District 43B Seat
(House District 43B covers Golden Valley, Robbinsdale, southeast Crystal and one precinct in Plymouth that’s directly west of Highway 169)
Rep. Mike Freiberg, a DFL candidate of Golden Valley, was re-elected to a seventh term Tuesday. Freiberg has served in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2012.
Freiberg defeated Republican challenger Steve Merriman, also of Golden Valley.
Freiberg received 75.7 percent and 18,020 total votes, while Merriman had 24.1 percent and 5,740 votes.
During his time in the House, Freiberg has not shied away from controversial topics. He was co-author of a bill that led to legalization of recreational cannabis for adult use.
He also authored a bill that would provide an end-of-life option for patients who physicians say have six months or less to live.
Heading into Election Day, the DFL Party held a 70-64 edge over Republicans in the Minnesota House.
State representatives serve two-year terms.
