Miss Teen Minnesota USA Spreads Kindness to Elm Creek Elementary
Elm Creek Elementary school in Maple Grove received a special visit on Friday from one of its former students. Mikhala Rivers, the 2023 Miss Teen Minnesota USA, came back to visit her elementary school to encourage kids to spread kindness.
“It’s really important because you never know what someone is going through,” said Rivers.
When Rivers was a fourth grader, she helped start the “Great Kindness Challenge” at Elm Creek Elementary, which encouraged students to do acts of kindness for one week. The challenge continues at the school today.
“Someone could be having a really tough day, and just one kind act, like helping them pick up their things, or even a smile can really change their day and maybe even their life,” said Rivers.

Rivers attends DeLaSalle High School, where she is on the high honor roll and a four-sport athlete.
