Microdistillery and Cocktail Room Proposed for New Hope
New Hope’s Planning Commission will consider a proposal from a Maple Grove company to open a microdistillery and cocktail room in the former Mountain Mudd Coffee Shop. The tank used for distilling would only be about the size of a water heater in your home and the product would be served in mixed drinks in a cocktail room.
The proposed location is on 42nd Avenue North, where the Mountain Mudd coffee shop used to be located.
Business owners A Davis Distillery plans to be open about 30 hours per week and is proposing to be open on Sunday as well. The distilling portion would be open for business on Mondays and Tuesdays and then the cocktail room would be open Wednesday through Sunday afternoons and evenings. The report to the planning commission also says the business hopes to serve patrons on the outdoor patio as well.
The microdistillery and cocktail room would be the first such business in New Hope. However, it might not be the last.
Distilleries and microdistilleries are on the rise in Minnesota. Skaalvenn opened in 2015 in Brooklyn Park. The owners produce bourbon, rum and vodka to several stores around the state, but they do not offer a cocktail room.
There are approximately 30 distilleries in Minnesota.
