Mexican Restaurant Opening Soon in Maple Grove
A new Mexican restaurant will open soon filling vacant space on Main Street in Maple Grove. Riviera Maya Cantina & Restaurant plans to open in the next couple weeks. It will replace the former Fiesta Cancun restaurant at 7904 Main Street.
This will be the fourth restaurant for owners Heidi and Luis Ortiz. They own other Mexican restaurants in Rogers (Guadalajara), Becker (Los Ortizes) and Thief River Falls (Las Ranitas).
“We named it Riviera Maya because that’s where we go when go to Cancun,” said owner Heidi Ortiz, at Monday night’s Maple Grove City Council meeting.
The Maple Grove City Council approved an on-sale liquor and Sunday sale license for the restaurant on Monday.
According to the owner’s website, the couple always had a dream to own their own restaurant. That dream came several years ago with Los Ortizes Mexican Restaurant and then Las Ranitas (Spanish for “little frog).
The Ortizes’ restaurants prepare Mexican dishes fresh daily from scratch in “a festive atmosphere by friendly employees,” their website says. Their beverages include wine and flavored margaritas, daiquiris, and beergaritas. Their website says “due to their success, it became necessary to open more locations.”
