Memorial Service for Fallen Officer Set for June 11 in Maple Grove
Plans for a memorial service are now set to honor Jamal Mitchell, the fallen officer who called Maple Grove home.
Law enforcement officers from across the country are expected to attend the service to show support for officer Mitchell’s family.
The service will take place Tuesday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove High School.
Mitchell’s fiancee, Tori Myslajek, released a statement Thursday saying “our family is completely devastated by our recent loss. Jamal was our whole world.”
Myslajek added that Mitchell’s “greatest joys in life were his children: Koen, 20, Jalen, 9, Kaden, 7 and little Macen, 4. Jamal and I created a beautiful life in Minnesota, and he was deeply passionate about helping and serving the community of Minneapolis.
“On behalf of our family and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank our friends, neighbors, loved ones and the entire community for the continued support.”
Investigators with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) say officer Mitchell was shot and killed in an ambush while attempting to give medical assistance as he was responding to a double shooting in an apartment on May 30 in Minneapolis.
The ambush shooter, identified as 35-year-old Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed, was killed shortly after during an exchange of gunfire with police, BCA investigators said.
Since the shooting, police departments across the region have bonded together to show support for their fallen colleague.
