Medical Examiner IDs Brooklyn Center Boy in Accidental Drowning
A Brooklyn Center boy accidentally drowned after swimming at Baker Park Reserve in western Hennepin County, authorities said.
According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, 8-year-old Karmon Conneh was located on Thursday afternoon at the Baker Park Reserve South Beach swimming area of Lake Independence.
The children was pronounced dead late Friday night at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, more than 24 hours after the incident occurred.
The medical examiner said the child died from complications of freshwater drowning.
In a press statement, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said the child was on a supervised field trip when a teacher discovered the boy “in about 3 feet of water.”
Responders administered CPR before the child was rushed to the hospital.
“This is a parent’s nightmare, and our hearts are breaking for the family, as well as the teachers and kids who were on the field trip,” read a statement provided by the sheriff’s office.
