MDH Adds Two Local Elementary Schools to List Reporting 5+ COVID Cases
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported on Thursday that the average seven-day test positivity rate for COVID-19 reached 8.4 percent. That rate is well above the state’s “caution” threshold and the highest its been since Dec. 13, before Minnesotans were fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the growth of schools reporting COVID-19 outbreaks has slowed. MDH lists 21 schools from the CCX News viewing area with five or more cases over a two-week period. Last week the list included 20 northwest suburban schools. The cases do not necessarily mean coronavirus infections were spread in the school, just that students or staff were infectious while in the building.
Two schools from the northwest suburbs were added this week to the MDH list: North Woods Elementary in Plymouth and Rush Creek Elementary in Maple Grove. Benilde-St. Margaret’s is no longer listed as having five or more cases. The list of northwest metro schools includes:
- Armstrong High School
- Brooklyn Middle School
- Brooklyn Center Elementary
- Champlin Park High School
- Cooper High School
- Fernbrook Elementary, Maple Grove
- Jackson Middle, Champlin
- Maple Grove Middle School
- Maple Grove High School
- Maranatha Christian, Brooklyn Park
- North Woods Elementary, Plymouth
- Oxbow Creek Elementary, Brooklyn Park
- Park Center HS
- Parnassus Preparatory, Maple Grove
- Providence Academy, Plymouth
- Rice Lake Elementary, Maple Grove
- Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion, New Hope
- Rush Creek Elementary, Maple Grove
- Wayzata High School
- Weaver Lake Elementary, Maple Grove
- Woodland Elementary, Brooklyn Park
Schools are removed from the MDH list if they don’t have any new infections over a four-week period.
Case Rates Rise in Hennepin County Suburbs
Hennepin County’s case growth has also climbed, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Health provided on the county’s website. The case rate as of Oct. 4 in Hennepin County is 43.5 cases per 10,000 residents. The prior week it was 37.8.
Several cities in the northwest suburbs have higher case rates than the county rate. They include:
- New Hope 60.7 cases per 10,000 (42.1 week prior)
- Maple Grove 53.2 (40.5 week prior)
- Robbinsdale 52.5 (38.0 week prior)
- Brooklyn Center 52.4 (39.8 week prior)
