Masked Men Injure Two During Home Invasion
Police in Brooklyn Park are looking for at least three men involved in an overnight home invasion Friday that left one man with a gunshot wound and another man with a serious head injury.
It happened shortly after midnight on Friday. Police believe the home, in the 8000 block of Brunswick Avenue, was targeted.
“I saw yellow tape across the tree over there and two cop cars right there, and two cop cars right there, and it was pretty crazy,” said neighbor Justin Hodgson describing the scene after police arrived.
Police say three armed and masked men broke into the home while seven adults and two children were inside.
“We believe that this was targeted. They were there for a specific reason related to the specific occupants in that home,” said Brooklyn Park Police Deputy Chief Mark Bruley.
A shattered bedroom window is where police say the occupants of the home escaped after being tied down first, and one man shot in the legs, and another man severely beaten in the head.
It’s an unsettling crime for Hodgson and his neighborhood.
“I have a 10-year-old daughter that lives here. Wow. That’s a little nerve wracking,” said Hodgson.
“This is a very serious crime, and we’re taking it seriously, that’s why we have numerous detectives working on it,” said Bruley.
Police are saying little about the motive, but they believe it was a robbery. Police did not disclose the relationship between the robbers and those in the home.
Police have visited the same residence eight times over the past 15 months, though Bruley says those visits were mostly for non-crime related service calls.
“We have a lot of ways we investigate crimes, and we’ll have [the Hennepin County] crime lab down there, we’ll be going through a variety of mechanisms to resolve this, and it will go on for the next couple days,” said Bruley.
As of Friday, both male victims remain in the hospital. police are working on a description of the robbers.
