Maple Grove’s Rapid Growth Impacts Budget
The Maple Grove City Council faces an upcoming budget vote. This one accounts for the city’s rapid growth. The suburb’s population increased by nearly 7,000 people since 2010. That additional growth creates a need for more expenditures and staffing.
The proposed 2020 budget calls for a more than 3 percent increase. It includes a request for two additional police officers. The average Maple Grove home, however, will see about a $4 decrease in city property taxes. That’s because rising values in the industrial and commercial sector will pick up a greater share of the property tax burden.
A final Maple Grove budget is scheduled for council approval Dec. 16.
