Maple Grove’s North Metro Range Expansion on Track
Relief will soon be on the way for law enforcement agencies in the northwest metro that are looking to provide officers with additional training.
Visible construction progress can now be seen on an expansion of the North Metro Regional Public Safety Training Facility in Maple Grove. The project, which started last fall, will expand the building from 22,000 square feet to 58,000 square feet.
The new building will have an additional gun range, along with reality-based training rooms where officers can learn de-escalation techniques.
“We were busting at the seams with our schedule,” said Alan Freng, range manager. “We’re a regional training facility so we have about 20 police agencies or related agencies that come through here, and we just had to start saying no to police training. So we’re hoping we can say yes a lot more when we get everything opened up.”
Construction should be finished by the end of the year. Officials hope to open the new facility in early 2023.
