Maple Grove to Host Inaugural Mayor’s Ice Fishing Tournament
Calling all anglers — this winter, Maple Grove is asking people to bundle up, embrace the cold and drop a line in the water for a chance to win cash and prizes.
“We’re really excited to get people from near and far to come to Maple Grove to catch some fish,” said Greg Anzelc, executive director of Experience Maple Grove.
On Jan. 31, North Arbor Lake in Maple Grove will play host to the inaugural Mayor’s Ice Fishing Tournament.
Experience Maple Grove partnered with the Maple Grove Lions Club to create the event, which will be part of a larger WinterFest celebration.

The inaugural Mayor’s Ice Fishing Tournament will take place on North Arbor Lake (weather permitting).
North Arbor Lake isn’t typically a fishing destination, but organizers received permits from the Minnesota DNR and the city of Maple Grove to stock the lake with trout and allow fishing for the event.
Now, they just need Mother Nature to cooperate.
“Obviously the last couple of winters have not been the norm, but we’re expecting a traditional winter, and we would fully expect that we’ll have 500 people out here enjoying the event,” said Anzelc.
The fee to participate is $45, and folks will have the opportunity to win up to $5,000 in cash and prizes. All proceeds will benefit the Maple Grove Lions Club.
