Maple Grove Swears In New Fire Chief
The city of Maple Grove swore in a new fire chief Monday night.
Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson administered the oath of office to Maddison Zikmund, who was appointed to the role in March.
Zikmund comes to Maple Grove after previously serving as fire chief for the city of Fridley. The new chief has more more than 13 years of firefighting experience, serving as a paid-on-call firefighter for the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department.
Maple Grove had been without a permanent full-time fire chief for months. The city formally parted ways with previous Chief Tim Bush last fall.
Zikmund has a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and management. He also brings several certifications and licenses related to fire and emergency management.
In addition, Zikmund has contributed to several fire service organizations in part-time or contract roles, including the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association, the National Fire Academy, and the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board, among others.
“We are excited to welcome Maddison to the team and look forward to the leadership and expertise he will bring to the role,” read a memo to the city council from Maple Grove staff.
The city council also authorized city staff Monday to begin recruitment for a new deputy fire chief.
