Maple Grove Police Arrest Suspect After 3-Hour Standoff
A Maple Grove man remains in police custody after police say he held officers at bay for several hours late Friday afternoon.
According to Maple Grove police, a wanted suspect had barricaded himself in a vehicle at 92nd Avenue and Shenandoah Lane and refused to get out. Police believed the suspect was armed.
Maple Grove officers and members of the Anoka-Hennepin Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force negotiated with the man for three and a half hours before he finally surrendered.
The suspect was wanted on a weapons-related offense, police said.
Law enforcement from Plymouth, Minnetonka, Edina, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Three Rivers Park District all assisted with the case.
Jail records show the 36-year-old suspect is behind held for possession of a firearm as a felon. Charges in the case were pending late Monday afternoon.
Court records show the suspect has a lengthy criminal history, including first-degree aggravated robbery and making threats of violence. The suspect isn’t allowed to possess a firearm, police said.
