Maple Grove Officer Gives Good Luck Handshakes to Osseo Team
Detective Missy Parker with the Maple Grove Police Department attends all Osseo Senior High basketball games as a school resource officer.
During section playoffs, she worked with the players to come up with unique handshakes for every member of the team. She learned handshakes for all of the players, not just the starters.
“Just having that positive outlook with kids is what I’m here for. That’s what I want. We see so much negative on law enforcement. It’s good to see something positive. That’s what we are are here for,” said Parker.
Video taken of the handshakes has gained immense popularity online. Some say it’s ‘gone viral’ with more than 25,000 views.
“That’s not the reason why I do it,” said Parker. “I love these kids. They touch my heart. I truly love them and I get emotional because I love these kids.”
Parker says she’s surprised the number of views grew and the players asked her to be there for handshakes again at the game against Park Center in Rogers on Friday night.
She’ll be there.
