Maple Grove Museum Showcases Historic Valentine’s Cards
The Maple Grove Historic Preservation Society embraced its romantic side on Wednesday with a display of historic Valentine’s.
Jeri Cobb, a member of the historic society, brought about a hundred of her massive collection of Valentine’s to discuss.
She started collecting Valentine’s in second grade and still has a scrapbook of ones she received that year.
Her collections spans countries and more than a hundred years of Valentine’s Day romance.
Several of her cards, dating back as far as the 1860s, featured a ring that could be used in a marriage proposal.
“If you sent this to the woman with the ring on it, she took the ring off,” Cobb said. “If she took it and sent this back, that meant she accepted your proposal without even talking to him.”
Located at 9030 Forestview Lane N., the Maple Grove Historic Preservation Society meets on the third Thursday of every month. More info is available here.
