Maple Grove Man Charged with Threats of Violence
A Maple Grove man has been charged with making threats of violence following an alleged domestic abuse incident last week that included an hours-long standoff with police.
Troy Rorman, 59, is charged with two felony counts of threats of violence and one misdemeanor charge of domestic assault stemming from an incident on May 17 at his Maple Grove home.
According to the criminal complaint:
Police were called to a home on Yorktown Lane North for a report of a domestic assault involving a firearm. Police learned that the alleged victim and her son went to the home to retrieve their two cats after police were there earlier in the day to help her retrieve other belongings. The woman entered the home with her son and saw her boyfriend, who then retrieved a firearm and stated he “could stand his ground.” The woman and son quickly left the home and called police, the complaint said.
After the call, the suspect refused to exit the home, leading to a standoff that lasted multiple hours before he agreed to exit and was arrested, police said.
Earlier that evening, the suspect “became enraged” after he was unable to find the “tupperware” for the coffee pot, which the victim presumed to be the carafe. The complaint said the suspect pushed the woman back into a cupboard and “began slapping her head and face.” The suspect stopped and locked himself in his room when the son came upstairs, the complaint said.
The suspect later “stormed out” of the bedroom and demanded the victim’s keys. As she was removing them from a carabiner, the suspect grabbed them and the sharp edge of the carabiner cut her hand. At that point, the complaint said the victim and son exited the house and called police to retrieve her belongings and medications.
The alleged victim later came to get her cats because earlier she had not yet found a place for them and called police a second time leading to the standoff.
The victim explained that she “is extremely afraid” of Rorman and that she has tolerated abuse over the years during their relationship, the complaint said.
