Maple Grove Leads Metro in Home Construction Permits
The construction season is in full swing and one city in the northwest metro tops the list for residential home construction.
According to trade association Housing First Minnesota, more homebuilding permits were issued in Maple Grove in June than any other city in the metro.
City officials say the 41 permits issued account for a mixture of single-family homes and townhomes.
Most of that development is happening in the northwest corner of the city, which has available land, newly-installed utilities and buyer demand.
“The school district is highly desirable,” said Joe Hogeboom, Maple Grove’s community and economic development director. “Of course, Osseo Schools is planning a major expansion to Maple Grove High School, as well as the new elementary school up in that area. So, we’ve seen a lot of interest by families that want to move into the area.”
Even with all the new development, Hogeboom says Maple Grove is still only 85 percent developed.
Meanwhile, Housing First Minnesota says while single-family home construction remains strong, construction of new apartments in the metro is virtually nonexistent.
